Registered with the QCTO (Quality Council of Trade and Occupation
Our purpose is to provide your community with the necessary skills to pursue a career in this vital industry. Established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we aim to address the need for improved Health and Welfare Education and understanding of Non -Communicable ,Communicable diseases within our communities by providing skills that will enhance our communities to be employable and thrive to improve our Socio-Economy.
The objective of the program is to stimulate debate around the necessary conditions for a more inclusive and accessible training service market that can contribute to improved health and welfare educational outcomes.
OUR VISION:
Our vision is to be the third South African Nursing Council (SANC) registered institution in the Nelson Mandela Bay District and the first in Uitenhage area. To provide a service standard that would be of satisfaction to our clientele and to broader a platform to our non matriculates by giving them a National Certificate Vocational (NCV)/Occupational Qualification which will be of assistance to them in furthering a Nursing, social work career aswell as making them more employable .
Our mission is to bring health and Welfare Education to our Rural Community and equip them with the necessary Health and welfare skills. To empower our communities and build more awareness on communicable health issues.
To Create equality and a more inclusive community to close unemployment gap and create more employable Communities .

Health Promotion is a new profession in the health sector that deals with prevention of diseases and
improving health lifestyle so that people can live longer, happier and healthier lives.
Duties of Health Promotion Officer
Workplace attachment and Prospective employers
Major employer is Department of Health (Clinics, rehabilitation centres, testing and counselling centres) through its implementation of Primary Health Care Re-engineering under NHI.
Other employers include Schools, Waste disposal plants, Water purification plants, Local municipalities, Mental Health Centres, Old age homes, Mines, Health Research centers, Cancer foundation, Heart foundation, Diabetes foundation, and NGOs.
Health Promotion Officer is a profession that bridges the gap between communities and health
institutions (Clinics,rehabilitation centres, testing and counselling centres etc) as such they form
greater part of primary health care re-engineering teams which is currently being rolled out by
Department of Health throughout South Africa.
Knowledge (theory) Subjects:
I) Public and Community health support, NQF Level 3, 22 Credits (220hours).
ii) Family and Community Services, NQF Level 3, 10 Credits (100 hours).
iii) Basics of Community Health, NQF Level 3, 8 Credits (80 hours).
Total Credits for Knowledge Subjects: 40.
Practical (simulations) Skills Modules:
i. Mobilise community to address community health issues, NQF Level 3, 4 Credits (40hours).
ii. Identify the service needs and ease of access to health and social services, NQF Level 3, 4 Credits (40
hours).
iii. Promote healthy life styles and mental wellbeing, NQF Level 3, 6 Credits (60 hours).
iv. Promote HIV prevention including HIV testing, condom use, partner reduction, circumcision,
STI treatment, NQF Level 3, 4 Credits (40 hours).
v. Provide information on prevention of accidents and incidents in homes ,NQFLevel2 ,4Credits
(40hours).
vi. Record and report on information provided to individuals, households and communities, NQF
Level 3, 4 Credits (40 hours).
vii. Promote child health, NQF Level 4, 4 Credits (40 hours).
viii. Support community members with psychosocial problems, NQF Level 4, 3 Credits (30 hours).
ix. Provide an integrated approach to support treatment adherence, NQF Level 3, 4 Credits (40 hours).
x. Identify and treat a select number of minor ailments, NQF Level 2, 8 Credits (80 hours).
xi. Provide basic support to people who are unable to care for themselves, NQF Level 2, 4 Credits (40
hours).
xii. Promote and provide support for maternal and women’s health, NQF Level 2,14Credits (140hours).
Total Credits for Practical Skills Modules: 63.
Work Experience Modules:
i. Operation and dynamics of communities, NQF Level 4, 6 Credits (60 hours).
ii. Household registration and assessment processes, NQF Level 3, 14 Credits (140 hours).
iii. Health promotion processes, NQF Level 3, 6 Credits (60 hours).
iv. Formal health provision processes, NQF Level 2, 12 Credits (120 hours).
v. Emotional and social wellness support processes, NQF Level 3, 6 Credits (60 hours).
vi. Household treatment processes of minor ailments, NQF Level 3, 16 Credits (160 hours).
Total Credits for Work Experience Modules: 60.
International Students Requirements
1. International student who reside in South Africa must
i. have student permit, workers permit or valid asylum
2. International student applying from their countries of origin must have
i. 2 (two) certified copies of the valid passport
ii. Pay stated full registration and deposit

NB: If one has National Certificate NQF level 2 and above that include Maths and English can apply for exemption at QCTO.
Foundational Learning Competence (FLC) is Mathematics and English at level 2 to 4. Its purpose is to remove barries to learning and progress in occupational pathways and skills at level 2 to 4. FLC can be done by anyone who does not have Matric with 33.3% in Maths and English and he/she want to study Occupational Qualification - course that contains 70% practical and 30% theory.
Learners will be formatively assessed in theoretical studies on the basis of assignments, an individual and group project and as well as short test. Assignments, case studies, problem-solving techniques will assist with formative assessment. Learners will also be formatively assessed in real work environment on the basis of observation in natural setting; unobtrusive or planned. Behaviour and performance will be evaluated.
EXAMINATION
Upon completion of the training learners will be issued with a statement of results by the college which will allow them to sit for national examination. NB: National examinations are written in March and October/November every year.
CERTIFICATION
Learners who passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Qualification: Health Promotion Officer by Quality Council (QCTO).

Approved by SAQA at NQF Level 3 with 163 Credits ADVANCED STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Mid Level course is being developed to bridge to Degree in Health Promotion Higher Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work at NQF Level 5.
